The Ohio Department of Taxation (ODT) issued a recent alert regarding a new text message scam that is targeting Ohio taxpayers.
Scammers are sending fraudulent texts claiming that a tax refund has been approved and prompting recipients to click a link to “confirm account details.” The link leads to a fake website that mimics the official ODT site and misuses its branding.
Important reminders from ODT:
The Department does not contact taxpayers via text message.
Never click on suspicious links or share personal information via text.
Always verify you are on the official site: https://tax.ohio.gov
